MY TOP FIVE CHRISTMAS MOVIES TO WATCH EVERY YEAR

The holiday season is in full effect, which means I have been binge watching Christmas movies for the past week.  It is so much fun relaxing on the couch in my pajamas, and fuzzy socks, along with my favorite snacks while me and the hubby watch our favorite Christmas movies.

There are a number of holiday movies that I enjoy watching each Christmas season, but these five top my list:

It’s A Wonderful Life

This is my absolute favorite Christmas movie of all time!  It doesn’t truly feel like Christmas until I have watched It’s A Wonderful Life.  This is such a heartwarming movie about  a kind man (George Bailey) who becomes overwhelmed with the trials of life that he thinks of ending it all.

During his attempt to end his life he is visited by an angel (Clarence) who shows him what life would be like if he had not been born.  After a visit from Clarence, he (George) gains a new lease on life.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Rudolph takes me back to my childhood.  I remember my younger brother and I watching this movie every time it came on growing up. Rudolph is born with a nose that glows bright red.  This causes him to be treated differently and bullied by the other reindeer.  In the end, Rudolph saves Christmas by guiding Santa’s sleigh through the fog and snow.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Talk about laughs, this movie will have you rolling.  I love Chevy Chase and he certainly doesn’t disappoint in this movie.  He simply wants to have the perfect Christmas; but, it seems as if everything that could go wrong does, including the Griswold’s receiving unexpected family members for the holidays, who wind up living in a camper on their property.  This movie always has me laughing from beginning to end.

A Christmas Carol

I remember reading this book as a kid.  I thoroughly enjoyed the movie as well, and it has always been one of my favorites.

A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean-spirited, miser with a very sour disposition. He hates Christmas and everything that comes along with it.  The story takes place on Christmas eve. Upon arriving home, Scrooge is visited by an apparition of his late business partner Jacob Marley. He warns him to change his ways and informs him that he will be visited by three ghosts.

That evening, Scrooge is visited by three ghosts – The Ghost Of Christmas Past, The Ghost Of Christmas Present, and The Ghost Of Christmas Yet To Come.  With each visit, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, more humane individual. After the third visit, he begs for forgiveness and asks for a second chance.

This story reminds us that none of us are all bad, and that all of us are capable of changing our bad habits.

Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street is such a heartwarming story about an old man hired to play Santa, and a young girl (Susan) who  wants to believe in him but whose cynical mother does not believe and has raised her with those same beliefs.

The man in question is hired to play Santa in Macy’s department store, and claims to actually be the real Santa (Kris Kringle).  On that basis, his sanity is brought into question.  Kris Kringle has to defend his sanity in an open courtroom.

Little Susan only has one Christmas wish, and in a sweet turn of events, she gets her wish.  I love this movie.
